The English Setter Club’s Spring Open was run on The Dublin Mountains on the 14th March, 2010. The Judges were Jim Sheridan and Club Chairman Paddy Peoples. Both men are not afraid of hard walking and they covered a huge amount of ground in the effort to give every dog the maximum opportunity to shine. Grouse were evident, but dogs seemed to be having some difficulty in making the most of the chances. Des Linton’s IR&WSD Int.FTCh Craigrua Osprey was going for his third successive win in this competition. He didn’t disappoint, taking the early advantage and having a good find on a pair of grouse – the only find standing by lunch time. However it wasn’t only the temperature that rose in the afternoon, the action distinctly hotted up too. One of the highlights was a breath-taking run by Gerald Devine’s young IRSB Gortinreagh Clancy, which culminated in a flashy point on a pair of grouse, with a good production and clean up. The second round saw more bird action with several dogs having finds on snipe. On the last cast of the Trial Hugh Brady had a find on grouse with his brother’s IRSD Ballydavid Aobh. After along walk back the Chairman announced that Gerald Devine’s Gortinreagh Clancy was the winner with the grading of excellent, while Capt Brady’s IRSD took second, graded Very Good and Des Linton’s IR&WSD IntFTCh was third also graded Very Good.
